KRK Rokit 8's

What you think guys? I'm about to get my first pair of actual studio monitors. I've been using my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 system with just the sub and 2 satellites and I think it's time to get something that isnt computer speakers.

I don't want to spend more than $400 - $500 for a pair and it looks like the KRKs are not too bad. I want decent low end response so I was thinking 8s over 6s.

I buy out of production stuff all the time (I use Event ASP 6 monitors). Seems quality of components are going down pretty steadily. Love my modded Digi 002 rack, bought it just last year and it's been out of production for something like 11-12 years? Solid piece of hardware though.

Yeah and when it comes to studio monitors I'd definitely like something that doesn't suck but I see that can get pricey. The V8's certainly LOOK more like a nice studio monitor than the Rokits and I'd love to hear a nice pair.

I still use a Roland JV-2080 as my midi module and the good old Roland A-90 is my controller. I'll never get rid of the A-90. :)

The V8's are an entirely different universe from the Rokit's...

That said, I wasn't really crazy about the V8's.

THAT said, I'm pretty freaking picky.

I really do not like KRKs, i have heard them in a bunch of rooms and on lots of material, never worked on em, but all teh ones ive heard r horribly bassy, like just tons of bass, so much that i wonder if a good room would even help them coz the bass just overpowers everything. So there not flat in my opinion. One time, i was tracking bass DI through a friends pair, and on some of teh notes u could actually hear the enclosure ring, like the enclosure itself had an anomaly in it that would not let u hear that frequency correctly.

So Rokit or V8, not a fan of KRK. Unless ur doing Hip Hop i think, and u want to hear a really fat bass but dont want that huge bass following u everywhere u take the mix, but for pop, rock and everything else i'd imagine their extremely hard to mix on.

I felt like the bass on the v8's I used was nearly non existent? They were in a treated room though.

I like the Mackie hr824's too.

I've only heard a pair of Mackies once, dont remember the model. I wasn't particularly fond of them either... but im not the best judge of these things. I still really am not fond of KRKs and all the ones I've heard are bassy, i have to add though Quincy that I mostly heard them at standard home studio levels and I have read and a times found that they only start to get flat and overcome the boomy bassness at a certain volume.

I see, I see, thank you very much for all the input guys - I love it! :)

I write soundtrack style music that incorporates metal style guitar and leads along with orchestra and piano elements so I do need a nice rich full sound but yeah, I've heard you want monitors to be decently flat.
