I have a Omni Studio and am looking for recomendations on a breakout/input box that I could use with the Omni Studio that would allow me to have more simultanious inputs into the computer. I want to be able to record more then 4 tracks at a time. Any suggestions????

Do you need additional mic pres as well or just more inputs?

Probably just inputs. I have been running everything into flat Nuendo software. Although it would be cool to find something woth aditional phantom powered imputs. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Oh I might mention that I am using Shure 57, 58 and Shure KSM-27 Mics. I am trying to get multiple track on Drums and Guitars simultaniously. (Then going in later and adding seperate tracks for Bass and vocals). Thanks again.

Do you have a mixer? You will definitely need mic pres for any track that you'll be using a mic on and a mixer is just the ticket. Beyond that, you will probably need to get an additional or new soundcard. In fact, if you had a mixer, you would have no need for the mic pres in the Omni. I think what I would suggest is that you pick yourself up a little mixer that provides you with enough direct outputs to meet your needs and a new soundcard with enough inputs. I'm not sure about using multiple soundcards with Nuendo, but you may be able to simply add a Delta 44 to your existing system and be off and running. Otherwise, you might need to just sell your Omni and replace it with a Delta 66 or another card with enough inputs for you. Exactly which way you'll need to go depends on how many tracks you want to be able to record at once. In your position, I would probably try to upgrade to something with at least 8 inputs since anything less than that would not seem worth it to me.

What's your budget like for this upgrade and exactly how many tracks do you minimally want to be able to record? Let us know and we'll be able to be more specific in suggestion options for you.

Well the Omni studio came with a Delta 66. It's a great little setup that I don't think I would want to get rid of....I was more hoping to find a component that would work with it. Maybe I just need to go through the manual a bit more....I am sure there is got to be a way to plug more inputs through the Omni.

you only have 4 analog ins and the s/pdif with the Omni 66. You'll need another soundcard to get more inputs.

Add another Delta card, like a Delta 44, which you can pick up for under $200. Or another Omni studio would work too, although for the added $ you could buy a mixer like Blue said. Two Deltas will work together, they even use the same software control panel. Then you'd have 8 inputs.

I didn't know you could incorporate two soundcards into the same system and recording software simultaniously (I am new to home recording). Thanks guys for your advice...I will look into getting a different soundcard with a mixer. I will probably go with a Delta for the additional sound card....any suggestions on a type of Mixer (I would like to keep it under $500 if at all possible.) Thanks again.

Behringer. You can keep it under $200 if you'd like. the new UX series are getting some great reviews by their owners. Check out the Gear Bag section on this site.
