Recording with lavalier mike using 1/4" plug

I am trying to use an inexpensive lavalier mike. The mike has a mini jack. When I connect the mini jack to the MacBook Pro - it works fine. When I connect the lavalier, using a 1/4" connector into the Firestudio Project - it doesn't work.

Any suggestions?
