I've been battling Reaper ever since I purchased it. At first, I just got fed up and bought a more simple program called Mixcraft. While Mixcraft is a very good program to start out with, I find myself needing things that it can't provide.

That being said, I'm having some problems with Reaper again.

This time, it's not with latency. When I select a new track, arm it to record, then record..., it only records to the left channel. I did not choose to record mono panned hard left. Can anyone out there walk me through this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot, guys.

Never used reaper, but sounds like you created a stereo track.

Try creating a mono track or changing the inputs from '1/2' to '1'?

Yep, agree w/ CS.

Create a track to record into: CTRL-T

CLick on the 'Arm' button to 'arm' the track

Click on the area below the fader, on the track control panel. This should show input selection. Click on MONO and then choose which input you want to listen on.

This assumes you've already set up the preferences (CTRL-P, Audio-> device) for your soundcard / audio interface.

If your source is a microphone, or guitar / bass, then it's a MONO signal, and should be recorded as mono.

Some instruments: stereo keyboards, stereo drum machines, will output in stereo, but not voice. You COULD use 2 mics, and record 2 signals, but you'd not want them to be stereo, unless specifically so. For most simple 1 mic recordings, MONO is the choice.

After you record your track in MONO, the playback will arrange the signal into the stereo spectrum, meaning, pan it to both sides. You don't have to do this manually. Software does it for you.

Disclaimer: my apologies if this is over-simplistic, it's hard to know someone's knowledge level, and this is a common area for confusion ( I know I was ).

I haven't looked at mixcraft, but I heard it includes Shred, which is a wicked cool guitar amp sim from acmebargig.

still free till 2.0 (25$, me thinks).

Thanks a ton. This forum seems more friendly/helpful than the Andy Sneap one.

P.S.- The help wasn't over-simplistic, it was just right.
