Crickets sample slowed down sounds like a boys choir??

Learned about this album while reading an interview by Beck Hansen with Tom Waits. Considering Waits has a history for trumpeting old wives tales like it's written in the Talmud I thought I might run it by you guys to see if this seems accurate:

According to Waits, one track is of crickets, and the other is the same cricket track slowed down immensely to create the tones present. I don't know enough about how sound breaks up when stretched to that length. I guess in this case it wouldn't be a TCE plugin it would be a tape running reallllly slowly. Or a really long tape recorded very quickly and played back very slowly...I have no idea how one would accomplish this sort of thing so I'm just guessing.

Curious if it's blatant BS or not
