ohh ya i have that issue sometimes cause i sing vocals with my headphones up pretty loud, i'm pretty noob, but usualy i can use some kinda gate on my vocals that can cut out that stuff during the times i'm not singing, i've also recently switched from a shure sm57 that picked up all kinds of surrounding noise to a shure 7b which seems to pick up much less ambient noises and junk sounds.

that could be it... it also might be the record what you hear button if you have onboard sound....

try looking through your sound settings (example, in xp control panel--sounds and audio devices)

maybe also right click properties on your sound drivers icon in task bar (if you have one)

just try and find the record what you hear button!

just my guess!

good luck!

ps to test if it is a routing problem ( what my post is talking about) you could unplug all headphones/speakers and play a song (even though you cant hear it) and record you singing. While listening, if you can hear the song, its probably the "record what you hear button!"

I believe sirhc has it nailed as this is a very common problem with people using built in or consumer grade PC soundcards.

If on windows XP....

Dbl click the speaker to open the windows audio control panel.

Choos options -> then properties -> check the "recording" button, make sure all inputs are checkmarked below and then hit OK

Now you should be back at the recording panel with all inputs viewable. Make sure "what you hear" is not checked and that "line in" is.

With "what you hear" checked it will record everything that is meant for your speakers. You want "line in" so that it only tracks that input but you can listen to the music in your phones.
