Gateway Power Supply

Maybe an odd question and apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place...

I'm running a Gateway GT5658E. I've been looking to upgrade some of its innards, which would require that I also upgrade its modest 300 Watt power supply.

It's been a long while since I've looked into something like this (my last computer was a custom build I threw together myself), but I seem to recall that pre-built systems like those from Dell and Gateway had proprietary form factors in a lot of their hardware, power supplies included.

I found nothing through Gateway that indicated that a higher output power supply was available for this system, so I'm wondering if it's now opened up, so to speak. Can I use a standard-issue power supply to upgrade my system or will I just be trying to jam the square peg into the round hole... again, so to speak? ;-)

I swapped out my gateway power supply with a standard atx PS from corsair. If it is mounted up top in the back it should be pretty standard. But yeah, the 750W gave me crossfire capability and actually stabalized my machine a bit.

I actually just looked this up, seems that PS you have is used in a ton of different machines so that almost screams "standard" to me. Also, the look is very generic.

Many thanks for the info! Glad to know this isn't going to be quite the pain I'd anticipated.
