How to use the built in MULTI-FX PROCESSOR on my mixer?

Hey, I have this question.

I just bought this mixer, Behringer 1204fx. And it works great and all but I just can't get the built in multi-fx processor to work at all. I think I've tried any combinations of the fx and aux knobs and it just won't work, do I need to connect it through monitors to make it work? I believe not but it doesn't seem to be another way.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you recording through computer software? Or you just connecting the desk to some speakers and plugging a mic in? From what I know the multi FX doesn't work when connected to a computer through a usb interface, I think its more for live PA.

Correct me if I am wrong though, Im not 100% sure about that.

And welcome to HRC!

Thanks, I'm recording through computer software, I haven't tried it on pa speakers yet though, but it should work through headphones output, at least the manual say so I believe but it's not very specific. And since it came with usb interface would be weird if it doesn't work through the computer? I just tried to run it through the alt output and the control room output to a monitor and it still won't work, I get the parameters to work on the fx screen but there's no fx coming out... "/

If you're plugging the headphones into the mixer it should work, check the following: (these may seem simple, but they are vital)

-Phones/CTRL Room knob is up
-FX Send knob is up
-FX/AUX2 Return is up
-The FX knob for the channel is up

With those in place there shouldn't be a problem.

But to be honest, you're better using plug ins in my opinion.

Checked them all, tried it all and still a dry signal, I don't understand why. I've tried plugins but I don't find them good

yeah I did, the volume increased when I did it but nothing else happened. Could you please explain the difference between the red and the orange knob?

I believe the red knob is the input amount, and the orange knob controls FX into the channel.

Not 100% on this. Mine works though =/

I got this same mix board just few weeks ago :) Perfect for small - medium based recordings.

To get the Multi FX working on the channel you want, first you need to look over toward the "program (PUSH) knob" on the right of the board next to the LCD screen.

Make sure you select FX you want by turning the knob then push knob down to select it.

Directly under that, you will see "STEREO AUX SENDS",
The 2 RED knobs should be all the way down unless in use, but the orange knob needs to be at least at 1 o'clock.
There is a switch next to that, that says "MAIN MIX, ALT 3.4" make sure that button is up so that the fx is running on the main mix.

Moving left of that button you will see AUX SENDS. another orange and red knob.again, make sure that is at least at 1 'oclock and the SOLO switch isn't depressed on either of the two knobs.

Simply, Orange is everything effects. If the knob is orange, then it has got something to do with the fx.

If all the knobs are correctly set underneath the small lcd screen with has the number of the effect on it, simply turn up the orange knob on the channel you want the effect to run on, and fingers crossed it will work.

I just unplugged my mix, and brought it over to my other computer to write this up, so it is exactly what works for me. Any questions i will be happy to answer, and if a photo of the set up will help i can post one as well.

Cheers,
Justin

I've tried it all now and still I get nothing. I can't hear any fx through my headphones connecting it to the phones output. Btw how do you connect yours to the computer, through rca? It would be really great with a picture if you've got one as you said.
What about the solo button on the channels and all those, I've tried with and without and still no fx?

Im using the UCA 200, the RCA output of the desk goes into the input of the interface(UCA200), which connects via usb to my computer.

The solo buttons on the tracks just isolate them from the master mix/alt 3/4, it just means that the black slider is final, there is no other ways of turning it up or down apart from the track slider if you use solo's.

I use the phones output, then run it into the UCA200 then into a usb slot. and i also use the main output jacks for my monitor speakers.

Question... have u pressed the relay buttons next to the phones output? there should be Tape/CD, Main Mix Alt 3/4 with lines pointing to the switches switches and all going towards the Grey knob with phones written above it. Press down the main mix and the tape switches and give it another try. in the meantime i will attempt to upload a photo using this sites upload tool... *groan* dodgy written php scripts lol

cheers,
Justin

Orange = Turn up
Pink = Fully up, not depressed
Blue = pressed down

See if that works :)
