compression on tascam 2488

Hi .
I am using the Tascam 2488 mk11 . My problem is that the compression system is driving me mad. It appears that rather than using the standard format and numbering I have been reading so much about, they use 3 different ways. So..can any one help me with how to translate the 3 displays

I'm totally new to compression. I am so unsure about whether my post gain setting should be set lower or higher than the threshold. So that the loud and soft parts are more in line. I keep trying all sorts of settings but I really am struggling to hear the changes.
I sing soprano, so what general settings would you recommend as a starting point???
