Vocal mics and mic preamps

Sorry about posting another gear question everyone, but I'm back from college and trying to do bigger and better things in the studio. I'm looking to purchase a new condenser mic within the $300-$500 range (I use the AKG Perception 220 right now). I am also looking to purchase my first mic pre-amp within the $400-$500 region (I have just tracked directly through my digi002 previously). Can anyone steer me in the right direction towards some nice mics and pre-amps in those price ranges? What are your favorites?

While i know next to nothing about good gear in your price range, i figure i'll just repeat what i've read from others on this site. I'm not sure about a good preamp. But for the mic, I've heard more than one person say their favorite mic on vocals is actually the Shure sm7b, which is a dynamic mic. Not sure why but i'm sure someone else will stop in and offer more advice.

Welcome to HRC :]

I'm one of those. Nearly every classic vocal mic is a dynamic (or a ribbon, which is technically a dynamic). This whole "you only use condensers for vocals" is someone's idea of a joke - Or a marketing ploy...

That said - The OP didn't mention if it's for vocals...

If it is, then I'd grab a 7b and a True P-Solo. That pair would probably handle 90% of your vocal tasks for the next 30 years.
