i was looking at some of the profiles on here and was noticing that some people have an adat recorder, but also have a computer for recording. what is the adat for if the computer is used for recording? i was just wondering. and also, the same with just a dat machine. what would they both serve as in a computer recording studio?

thanks
jason

you know? I've thought that same exact thing. I know Db uses an adat, maybe he'll chime in. Only thing i can think of is if you have adat tapes you can use the adat machine to get the signal into the computer?

Jason,

I use the ADAT as a dedicated recorder much the same as in analog school one would use a reel to reel tape machine. With the 24 A/D converters in the ADAT it made the machine a very competitive method to record with. It is also very mobile as it fits in my mobile rack with compuressor, headphone amp, DI box, etc. I do not use my computer for recording. I transfer the .wav files from the adat via ethernet into the computer and use the computer for mixing and mastering only. I have a high quality D/A set up for stereo for monitoring only. So there is really little duplication of effert in the system. This way too the audio is only converted once via A/D.
