I read about this on Cracked, so u know, sketchy, but they said this potentially uber dangerous non-speaker speaker actually creates a clearer sound than ur normal non-deadly variety

If this is possible... is there a way to make it safer... Im going to admit even with threat of being called insane but if i could build a PA system using this.. i mean imagine how badass my live show would be

Post a link to the story. I'm curious as well. It sounds pretty much alike a transistor radio though on the video.

heres the link to the story, im sure the bad quality is youtube, but i cant imagine how it sounds in real life. theoretically it seems like it should sound pretty good as the creation of sound in the air wouldnt be hindered by flaws and limitations in the speaker cone

could jsut be internet mumbo jumbo though, but can u imagine going to a show and seeing two huge arcs blasting music. CAN U SAY METAL?!?!?

Hmmm, well, I think the theory is sound, but the whole thing is still under heavy R&D and somewhat far from practical use I think. This is somewhat akin to the concept of the flame speaker. There's a wiki entry on it as well:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_speaker

Edit: oh right, and the things produce ozone as a byproduct, so giant flaming arcs of doom may not be a far cry without some serious ventilation.

I thought there was a flame version of this back in the 60's or 70's. Hmmm, will have to dig up the link.

edit: here we go
