I want to buy a Digital recorder, and would like to know if any of these models stand out more than the other.Yamaha AW16G, Fostex VF1600,Boss 1180,Tascam 788..Zoom MRS 1266
I dont want to record on my computer,i just want to find really good digital recorder, with atleast 10 tracks. If anybody knows anything about these products and thinks a certain one is better becuase??? That would be great. The Yamaha AW16G seems to stand out in my mind, but a person told me that Fostex and Roland( Boss) and leaders in the recording world and you should stick with them..I thought Tascam had been making recording equipment far longer than Fostex...
Thanks Rick

Why don't you want to record on your computer? The only thing you'll gain with a digital multi-track thingy is portability. Everything else is cons. Price, flexibility, expandbility, sound quality, all better on a computer.

careful now, you wouldn't be the first one we converted :O) -j

Yeah, why do you not want to record on the computer? Just wondering.

The Yamaha and the fostex are both great recorders. Stay away from the Zoom, I have heard they had some issues. The Tascam is OK too, probably equal to the Boss unit. As the ohter guys said though, your best value is the PC, unless you absolutely need the portability. Editing is much better, and the options to upgrade are better. The portable digital recorders are pretty much set in stone, once you got it and max out the memory, thats it, no more adding options.
