Ok I got this thing i was asked to do by someone in the band. I was told that since my board has a direct out on each channel that i can record a concert right into a computer and then mix/master this and reproduce the concert on a CD. The question I have is that we dont have a program on a computer that can travel with us but we have a PC with Cakewalk on it and was wondering if there was a way that I could record to something that will put the stuff on to some sort of storage (card, cd, flash, whatever) that can be up loaded into Cakewalk and then mastered?? or what options that I have.

Sep 24, 2009 11:22 pm Your talking about a portable digital recorder. How many track would you need to record at once, and what kind of budget do you have to spend on it?
That will dictate what is available to use.
But yes, there are several alternatives to do poertable digital recording and then drop the tracks into Cakewalk.

Sep 26, 2009 07:54 am Yeah, you'll need something that can accept as many inputs as you want to put out from the board. So if there's 20 channels being used, you'll need a 20 input device. If you can only accept 2 inputs on your recording / storage device, then you'll have to take all the channels as a stereo feed ( 2 channel ) and just tweak it as you can.
I think there are some hand-held devices that will accept 4 channels, so you could take groups and send them to 1 channel, say all vox to group1, all guit to g2, bass to g3, and drums to g4. But I'd think these devices are 300$ range and up.
If you're real inspired, I'd say a laptop with a cheap or free tracking program; reaper springs to mind, but Multitrack studio is good, and kristal audio engine is free, and an 8 input interface will do you right. I think you can get tascam 1641 for under 500. prolly less on ebay.
A laptop / interface option will let you do more involved recording in the future, should you get the bug.
Oct 03, 2009 10:59 am Well its only a 16 channel board and we use two of them for click tracks. So something around 16 maybe a few less maybe a few more can do what I am wanting. And budget.....well there isnt any money for it at the moment but we will save up and get what we need, but cheaper means sooner as long as its not a horrible piece of equipment.
