Recording With CEP 2.1

Hey guys, I've recently been recording a few bits and pieces with my band in Cool Edit Pro. I feel I've got the basics down pretty well, but the one thing that frustrates me is I don't know how to have what is being recorded played through the headphones at the same time as everything else in the mix.

Right now, I'm trying to record keyboards and I'm simply plugging the keyboard into my microphone slot and using that as the recording device in CEP, with my headphones plugged in. The drum track I've got tracked in the multitrack editor is audible, but nothing of the keyboard comes through. This obviously makes recording impossible, because there's no keyboard sound to hear whatsoever (I've got the cable coming from the headphone slot of the keyboard, therefore disabling sound).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If recording using the built in sound card, it sounds to me as if you mic input playback may be muted. Personally I would be using the line in for keyboards if you have one.

Also, if you keyboard has line outs they would be much better to use than the headphone jack.

it has been such a long time since I used Cool Edit but if I remember correctly, there is a button in track view around where the mute and solo buttons are that says "input echo". select that.... could be way out to lunch though...like i said it has been awhile
