HUGE DELAY using Behringer FCA202 with CUBASE

Greetings:

I am really new to recording using PC's and I am having a little problem.

I am using CUBASE SE3 with the Behringer FCA202 firewire interface, I finally was able to get the pc to work properly with the interface:

PC Specs:HP Intel Core Centrino duo CPU 1.50 GHZ
4 gig ram Windows Vista Service PAck 1.

I downloaded the latest drivers from behringer. I went and disabled the onboard sound card. I finally got the PC to use the behringer as the device to send and receive sound. But I am getting a HUGE delay on the audio.

I talked to tech support at steinberg (makers of cubase) they told is a latency problem.

I went to the control panel and for the device i raised the latency and lowered with no results. The people a Steinberg were no help either. I guess the guy wanted to go home..(I called 15 minutes before going home.. :()

I went through the PC settings and have tried to te\weak this as much as I could with no results...

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks and kind regards.

Welcome to HRC first off.

While the Centrino isn't the quickest CPU in a laptop for use with audio recording it is capable and with 4 gig of ram you should be pretty set in that area.

Second, the FCA or any of the other Behringer interfaces seem to have a bit of trouble with that and we still have not found a perfect solution. It seems their firewire is a bit picky and doesn't like sharing any space on the buss that communicates with the CPU and ram.

But you are on the right track to start with adjusting the latency buffer. In their control panel does it say latency or does it say audio buffer? And does it give any number such as 128, 256, 512 and on up? At 128 you should be getting pretty low latency such as 15 milliseconds or less.

Some things to look at as well. What OS are you running, XP or Vista? Also are there any taks's running such as Anti-Virus or anything else that will eat up CPU cycles? Those can cause issues such as huge latency as well since the FCA again does not like sharing resources at all.
