Hello, my name's Aaron and im brand new to this forum. I've been trying to add some sound clips to a protools session by recording directly from a DVD player to pro tools. I've been trying to use the S/PDIF input on my MBOX2 with no success. Can anyone help?

Are you using the s/pdif out from the DVD player?

Most times you will need to tell the DVD player to use the digital outputs as well as telling PT to use the digital inputs.

If that still does not work then use the analog connections.

You will need to use the digital output if it has one. That would be an RCA looking connection and will send a stereo signal out digitally.

There are a good deal of DVD players that did not come with a s/pdif output on them so you may not have one. You will have to use the analog outputs, which again should be RCA connections a red and a white probably. And those will go to the analog inputs of your Mbox. You'll probably need a special cable that will have RCA on one end and 1/4" jack on the other to get the signal to the Mbox.

Yeah, so I tried a new DVD player and it has a digital audio out on it and im getting a signal now, but its just a loud clipping sound. I tried adjusting the sampling rate and the bit depth to no success. I'll have to try finding a cable like you described too. I dont know if the fact that im getting a signal now changes the circumstance at all.

OK, you need to make sure that you are only using the one RCA cable jack on each unit. The s/pdif out on the DVd player and the s/pdif in on the Mbox should get it done. It sounds as though you have the input connected to the input and its searching for a signal.

Could be a bad cable as well. You cannot use a standard RCA connection type cable. It needs to be a digital type cable.
