I recently saved an old Akai X1800 SD from the scrap heap and now I need the owner's manual. Trying to keep this on the cheap, so I'd really rather not have to pay $20 for a photocopy. . . . Anyone have one or know someone who might and would be willing to share?

May 15, 2009 12:33 pm Man, I looked pretty hard and found nothing for free.
$10 is the cheapest I see at classicaudio.com.

May 17, 2009 06:45 pm Yep, that is a tough one. I've looked as well before and ow for that one and there is not much out there below the $25 price tag. If it is a real honest Akai manual it is going to be bringing a hefty price tag. Copies are even going for the $20 plus area, so the one that Tripps found is the best bet.

May 18, 2009 10:18 am Thanks for the help. I guess I'll have to break down and spring for one. On a related note, anyone know of a good substitute for the rubber reel retainers that came on some X-1800 SDs? My understanding is that Akai switched to built-in retainers mid-way through the production of the X-1800. Unfortunately, mine is an older unit, and the reels won't stay locked in place when the unit is standing vertically.

May 21, 2009 09:09 pm You can try looking for a regular O-ring. I suggest a 90 durometer though as it will be a bit stiffer and should retain the reels a bit better without jiggle.
