(i already posted a thread similar to this, but changed the program i was using...and still need some help. more detailed problem now)

i just recently changed interfaces (not necessarily an upgrade, just replacing a broken m-track)
to behringer's fca202
(using vista, downloaded the newly released fca202 1.0.0 vista driver)

everything is detected and fine, i even got it to work with adobe audition but i decided to downgrade back to my more preferred cooledit pro

but when i select behringer for sound input (keeping internal sound drivers as output), and try to record, a blank wave line is briefly produced and then i get the message:

"try converting the sample type to a setting compatible with the sound card, or choosing a different device (eg Wave Mapper) under Settings/Devices and try"

when i disable my laptop's internal sound and use the fca202 as both input and output, i simply get the message:
"undefined external error"

..any ideas?

Yep, problem with using the fca for input and the onboard for output is they are not going to be compatible either timing wise or possibly sample rate settings wise either.

It is most common to use one device for both input and output. Although it has been done with two different devices it usually is not with an on board sound card.

If the fca uses ASIO I suggest using that driver for input and output and simply just using the fca.

I am not seeing anything on the net as far as cool edit and Vista being extremely compatible. Some have gotten it to work a bit, others not at all.

I am curious though as to why you would go backwards if you already have Audition and it does work in Vista.

i downgraded because I had this problem with Audition where anytime I previewed an effect and then used it, Audition would freeze up.
Apparently a lot of others have the same reason, and no one knows how to fix it, and I've never had much problems with Cooledit (even on vista, besides with the fca) so i switched back

Do you have all the current updates for Audition? That sounds like a problem that an update may have fixed.

so i just got it working!!
i uninstalled ASIO4ALL, and then reinstalled the behringer drivers and now it works

i guess asio4all and the fca202 don't work too well together

If you had stated you trying to use ASIO4ALL right off we would have told you it would not work. That is an emulated driver to be used with the WDM native driver. Not combined with a true ASIO driver.

But glad you got it figured out.
