using Behringer FCA202 with vista...

so Behringer FINALLy released a driver for its fca202 (firewire interface) for vista...
but it's not working for me.

I just bought the interface so I don't know if its a problem with the driver or my computer,
has anbody else had success with the new vista driver??

It is detected fine in the program, and I have it set for the output/input,
and sometimes actually when I first plug it in I can record a track with no problem.
However, when I go back to it, it stops working,
I press record and it starts a track but stops without recording anything...or sometimes gives me a message with something like "Audition cannot record with these recording settings - please check the settings on your sound device"

I've tried between specifying just the Behringer drivers and ASIO4All, neither is working smoothly...

help please?

Holy Crap!!! Their actually charging $100 for that thing now???

If you looked around the forum here or searched the Behringer interfaces you will find they are pretty much junk.

One out of 25 people actually get them to work steady for awhile. And they don't really know exactly what they did that solved the issue.

Honestly I'm not bashing Behringer here either. I use several pieces of their gear here with great success. But the interfaces, or at least the drivers are pretty much non functional at best.

One thing to maybe check is to see if your firewire chip is compatible with the interface. Many are not, and likely that might be the problem.

There are several interfaces in that price range from manufacturer's that have been building interfaces much longer. Behringer just recently got into the market, and their first effort's are mostly residing in landfill's or electronic recycling piles.

IS the straight up driver ASIO, WDM or MME?

I use the FCA-202, but, alas, I use it on the Mac. It's actually the best two-channel interface I've ever used. I didn't realize that they were so troublesome in Windows. Mine has been rock-solid VERY low latency.

Anyway, Noize knows, so take his advice!

it's ASIO, does that mean it's specifically made to work with ASIO4ALL? i'm unclear about that

anyways yea, i'm aware of behringer's rep but i spent a lot of time scrolling through user reviews of this interface and nobody had anything bad to say...however most of them were using the older xp driver, i haven't heard anybody talk about the new vista driver they just released and i wanna see if that's what the problem is...

i was upgrading from an m-audio fast track usb, just 'cause it was acting kind of weird on me but i guess this wasn't any better of an upgrade haha. def much cheaper than any other firewire interface in the market though

so i just opened it up to try again and this is the message i intially get:

"the currently installed soundcard driver does not support directsound input. recording audio is not possible"

anybody have experience with that?

and then weird, i switch from asio4all to just the specified behringer drivers (since asio4all reports it as 'beyond logic' anyways)

and when i first try to record, it starts and then stops, i open up the behringer controls but don't change anything, and then go back and it seems to work now...but i have a feeling i won't be able to rely on it

any ideas? settings i need to be playing with?

Yep, you want to use only the ASIO driver supported by Behringer. Do not use ASIO4ALL with the true ASIO drive.

ASIO4ALL is an ASIO emulation that rely's on WDM drivers to function.

Direct sound is an MME driver set up that is generic for Windows. D not use that as it is the slowest of the drivers.

And yes, Jim is one of the few I know with it running properly and trouble free. I know there are a couple others here, one of which I am sure is running XP and not Vista.

If it is running stable now don't mess with it. Just check to make sure the driver selection is correct and you should be good to go.
