Cheap Distortion Pedal

Hey, I just wanted to share with you a VERY cheap distortion pedal that is actually pretty decent sounding. Typically, I prefer the Dual Rec or my rack pre, but I figured at $15 bucks, why not try it...worst case, its a nice plastic paperweight, right?

Danelectro (I know, I know - hear me out) makes a pretty nice sounding distortion pedal for those in need and on a tight budget. It's the FAB series Distortion and it really does sound decent. Granted, I haven't tried it on a half stack or anything serious, but I was able to get some very nice tones on a practice amp. It's clearly not the most versatile thing around, but it does have a nice crunch. The sound, although not as good, is remeniscent of the Boss DS-1 and can get almost as heavy as a DOD Grunge Pedal.

Because of the price, I bought some other pedals in the FAB series like the chorus and flange etc, but they do sound fairly cheap. I havent tried the overdrive yet but that is supposed to be decent too.

Bottom line, if you have 15 bucks to spare and want to add something to your arsenal - if even just to record one song with, it's worth checking out. Don't expect it to "make" your tone, but it just might dial up something you may be looking for at some point. Cheers!

It is, for the price a real good deal. I did get to try it on an older Mesa Boogie with a fairly clean setting. It had a pretty cool boost to it. Not something I would use everyday, but for the $15 price tag it is a good buy indeed.
