So I'm layin down some tracks and I'm using a pair of Yamaha RH-5M headphones. During playback, I've got my "level" set at midway (about 12 o'clock). I've got a lotta volume and plenty of headroom- just the way I like it. Then- I switch to a brand new pair of AKG K240M's and I've lost over half of my volume (and most of the "highs"). What's up with this? T-man

Mar 18, 2003 09:57 am As you may have noticed, AKG240 has a VERY warm sound. I monitor with an AKG240 too, and what I try to do to keep monitoring as reliable as possible is monitor with speakers too.
By doing that you will begin to understand the differences between AKG sound and speakers sound, so that further you may only use the headphones and know how it will sound like in speakers.....I am half way there. hehe.
If your Yamaha headphones aint a high end model, forget it. It will have no commitment to the true sound as it may aplly a non-neutral internal EQuing to the sound.
I hope I could help.

Mar 18, 2003 10:33 am Good call Bruno! I was gonna say take the new cans back maybe they are flakey. Your response makes much more sense. The recomendation that I was given was to stay away from AKG because they where colored. Sony MDR series was the recomendation I received. I do like the Sony's, they test out real well against my monitors. Maybe you would like to take them back for another flatter set of cans? Can't really say much more. Never used the AKG's.
