DXi and VSTi live software?

I'm in a band and our keyboard player currently has a setup which runs through sonar so he can use VSTi and DXi synths in live performance.

I was wondering if there was a specific piece of software i could use to mount the synths in order for live use rather than go through sonar?

Our problem is, the more songs we get, the more sounds, synths and samples we use and its getting pretty risky having them all going at once in sonar.

You might try using Project 5 version 2 instead of Sonar. It is actually more directed toward that type of thing.

You can use it in a variety of ways live. I work for several DJ's creating set ups and set's for them to use live with it on a laptop and never had any issues at all.

One way would be to set up several project sets that switch between software synths.

How may different VSTi's or DXi's are you using live? That would give me a better idea of how it might serve you best.

I've done some digging and am going to try a 'Ableton Live'.

We are using 1-2 synths per song in our set, so perhaps 15/16.

I'll let you know how we get on with this.

I hope you don't plan on using the free version of Live. That is very limited and extremely slow when trying to do anything with it Live. Sorry for the pun.

I've worked with the full on version of Live as well. Not to easy to get around in and very slow when switching out synths or project files.

Good luck and let us know how that works out.

It would be easy if we were prepared to have the laptop on show, we could just load different things between songs. BUT we're a professional band and there fore want to be able control the whole set through the midi controller so people know that we are actually playing live and not to bloody backing tracks!!!

Ya, you can switch them out via midi for sure. It is a matter of setting up the key combination's to do it and that's about it. I've not done many in Live recently but it was a good deal different and a few more clicks around then in P5. But it is do-able for sure.

And ya, that would keep the lappy hidden away from the prying eyes of the crowd.
