Sonar 7 meter problem

I have recently switched from using Sonar 7 on my PC w/XP to now using it on a Laptop w/Vista. When I open a project to mix, "some" of my meters come up and then hold. They are no longer metering in real-time and they don't change with fader movements or anything else. I have been through all the audio and metering options and the Help menu as well with no luck. Has anybody else come across this problem and/or have a solution or suggestion? If so I would greatly appreciate it.
The PC has a 2.66GHz processor 1GB of RAM and the Laptop has a Dual-Core 2.00GHz with 2GB of RAM.

You need to install all the updates for Sonar 7. Vista is the guilty party here, and Cakewalk made all the fixes to take care of the problems Vista caused with metering and many other things.

So head on over to www.cakewalk.com and go to the updates section and you'll be all good.

You'll need to have your serial number handy as the downloads are not available without it.

Thanks for the response Noize2u. I installed both updates from cakewalk and I'm still having the same problem. I might try a complete re-install. Is there anything else that I might be missing or haven't set correctly? I've spent 3 days working on this so far and I'm determined not to give up.

You can right click on the meters that are guilty of holding and check the settings for them. But it is odd that its only some of them and not all meters. I've not seen that happen with the updates installed before.

But indeed, if you do an un-install and re-install make sure that you remove the registry entries as well under Cakewalk or Sonar as that is were the settings for such things as the meters reside.

But ya, don't give up, its usually something pretty simple, once its found that is.

I am having no luck. I have uninstalled 4 times now (including registry) and installed all updates and I still have the same problem. I am afraid that hit a dead end and don't know what else to do. =(

I would then approach Cakewalk tech support with it. They may ask you to run a Watson log to have a look into what is going on. But they may as well have a solution ready right now for it.

I know it was an issue that was solved, not exactly certain of the exact issue but there were meter issues.

I personally run in XP Pro for those reasons. Cakewalk is doing everything in their power to keep things running smoothly, but every time Vista phones home you never know exactly what it is doing or why.

But Cakewalks tech support is going to be the best bet now if nothing else has worked.

I assume you did go into the meter properties and check the settings just to make sure they are correct?

But as stated, if it is only happening on a few meters out of a bunch, then that might tell them something else is up.

Thanks for the help. I run XP pro on my desktop as well and love it. When I got the new Laptop it came w/Vista so I thought I would give it a try at least. No luck. I just installed WaveLab and it wont work either. The meter problem in Sonar 7 was on all the meters. They would jump at the first transient on seemingly random tracks and then settle and do nothing. The MIDI meters worked fine. It's mainly the playback meters for audio that don't work. I have a Focusrite Saffire LE interface coming in tomorrow so I'll try the record meters then.
I might take everybody's advice and go XP pro on the Laptop as well.
Thanks! I really appreciate the help! Any further suggestion would be welcomed and if I happen upon the solution to this problem I will forward it on in the event that anyone else has the same problem.

....One other odd thing that I noticed is that time display (frames/msec counter) stutters but the seconds and minutes portion does not. Not sure what that's all about. I may have a clocking issue but not entirely sure.

Ya, that is very odd indeed. What are you running for an audio interface?

Nothing yet. I just copied over projects that already existed. I even tried running some of Sonar's tutorials to see if they had the same problem and they did. I tried going into Sonar.exe> Properties> Compatibility> XP mode. When I did that it wouldn't recognize that I even had a soundcard.

Something tells me there is a setting in Vista that is over riding whatever Sonar is doing. It should see the stock sound chip in the options/audio drop down menu even if it won't use it.

Good news! I just received my Focusrite Saffire LE interface, hooked it up and the meters are working fine now. I think it just came down to having a crappy stock sound card. I think I'll spring for an upgrade in that down the road. Thanks for the help and hopefully this thread will help anybody else with the same problem.

That is still very odd that happened like that. I wonder if the meters were somehow sensing latency from the stock card?
