recording out of sync

first let me say im new. and my problem is say i record a guitar track, then come back to record a bass track my second track is always off beat even though i know when im recording it its not. the way im recording is through a usb M-audio audio interface. its an older one id say 2 years and. is it the fact that its usb or could it be the pc? thanx for any help.

Hey, welcome to HRC first off.

And yes that is called latency. You are probably doing direct monitoring when you record so you don't hear it then. But that is common.

To help you a bit better it would be good to know the software you are using, the exact model of the interface and and processor size and amount or ram in the PC.
