Fast track pro - sample rate problem

Ok, so I got an M-audio Fast track pro. So far, it's pretty good. It took me quite a while to set up the drivers, but It's working now. So anyways, right now I'm recording at a 48k sample rate. However, the interface can go up to 96k. Now, I went into the control panel and it says max sample rate is 48k. But, when I disable the output channels, it shows 96k. Now, that's ok since I monitor through the headphone jack anyways. But when I click apply, or OK, it just reverts back to the same settings (output channels activated, max sample rate is 48k)

So, am I doing anything wrong? Please help...

Well, on a very quick read through on the units page at M-Audio's site it doesn't really state anything other then it is class compliant at 16 bit/ 48khz in 2 x 4 mode. For more i/o requires driver installation.

First off, did you have the unit's USB cable plugged in during installation? That will blitz things very fast and muck up any USB device installation.

Secondly, are you running it with the ASIO drivers as I'm pretty sure WDM supports up to 48khz on M-Audio devices.

Lastly, you don't say what recording software you are trying to use it with. MAny don't support 96khz operation. And if your using the Ableton lite app I don't think that supports 96khz. That is their way to make you buy an upgrade for the software.

No. I installed the drive, THEN plugged the hardware in.

I'm using the ASIO driver that came with M-audio.

I'm using Cubase SX3 so I'm pretty sure it would support 96k and up.

I would suggest hitting the M-Audio site and downloading the most current driver set up. I am pretty sure what ever came with the unit is out of date. They usually are updated several times and even though you just bought it it might be a 2 year old driver disc in the box.

Another suggestion would be to check your settings in the Options/Audio section of Cubase.

Ok, so I downloaded the new drivers. Yay, I got 96k working. BUT to do that, I had to disable my Realtek soundcard AND the FT pro outputs.

Great, I have no outputs left! But somehow, I can still listen to normal music (not in my sequencer) through the headphone jack. But when I record, I can hear the sounds when I just play but I cant hear the recording during playback...

I'm calling tech support... Lol

EDIT: Oh nevermind, I can't hear normal audio when it's set to 96k becuase then the FT pro outputs (where my speakers are connected to) are disabled.

SFX_NX, do you know if this issue is unique to the FT Pro or a limitation related to the computer? I want to be able to record 96k audio and still have outputs. Have you found another device to let you do that?

Thanks.

Is there some reason you guys want to record at 96k? The only time I do that is when I know I'm going to be doing some serious sound manipulation and heavy editing. And that is only for sound design work. I rarely if ever record a clients tracks at that high of a sample rate only for them to be degraded in the end product anyway.

I don't know anyone doing home recording that is using 96k sample rate.
