I saw this software in the shop for a reasonably cheap price and i was curious if anyone is familiar with it's functionality? Is it worthwhile to check out? Is it also DAW?

May 25, 2008 08:43 am I've been using it since ver 2 something.
I started using it for it's drum sequencing. You set up which sounds you want, then click where they hit in the beat. Pretty easy, and controllable.
I still use it for that, and am pretty happy with my results.
I also now use it for it's midi writing capabilities. I've used MIDI in other things, and I still like FL best.
I also use it for it's add-in functionality. I've added sytrus on a group by, and that synth is really well done. I've not much to compare it too, but the demo sounds you can get are very well done.
I purchased FL studio fruity loops edition (99$) a few years ago, then added the soundfont player (40$) and then the sytrus soft synth (50$).
I've not used a ton of alternatives, but I've been pretty happy with it through the years.
Listen to the HRC promo I did (in my profile). The drums were done with FL, as well as the soft synth parts (there were two parts played at same time).
The higher version (producer, i think) will let you record into the software. I've been using reaper for audio recording, and am very pleased. So my combo is Reaper for audio, FL studio for MIDI. With Garritan Personal Orchestra for my meager orch work.

May 25, 2008 09:16 pm Likewise I'm using FL Studio. I just bought myself the fruity edition ($99) and added on the soundfont player for another 30. That was around x-mas time. I've been using the demo versions since around v3.4 I think. It's worked well for me and my workflow. I don't use sytrus or any of their synths, (but I've found enough stuff off of KVR to be happy with) Also, there's a lot of people over on OCR (overclocked remixes) that use FL Studio, and they have a forum section dedicated to tips and tutorials.
Everything I've done so far has been using FL Studio. Including the couple things I have here on HRC, and the stuff I have posted up on thesixtyone. If I need audio capabilities, I'll either upgrade FL, or I'll use Audacity.

May 25, 2008 09:47 pm Just to toss it out there. You might also want to take a look at Project 5 from Cakewalk. www.project5.com
It has a few more bells and whistles then FL but also is in the lower price range with more stuff added on without having to pay extra. It was designed for ease of work flow with software and hardware synths alike.
May 26, 2008 11:31 am Thanks wil definitely check it out, though I haven't done much with midi, i would like to be able to program more variety of beats into my tracks, but the synth I haven't gotten to yet.. Looks like I got some work to do.
