I recently got into home recording and started purchasing some equipment. The first thing I bought to get started was a little Porta02 tascam. It's a good start. But I want to mix a little more. I was wondering if I could by a mixer and use it along with the tascam. Im looking for a cheap mixer with some effects, but I was just wondering or do I need a whole new system.
Thanks. :]

Apr 12, 2008 12:35 pm The thing is that the tascam porta 02 only records 4 tracks onto cassette, there is really no point on buying another mixer, what i recommend is selling the porta 02 and buying computer interface such as m-audio or whatever, by recording into the computer you have more advantages.
There are some interfaces out there that are mixer console and interface at the same time like the alesis multimix, this may be a good option in your case.

Apr 12, 2008 12:35 pm Depends on what you want to do.
You could get a mixer, and pre-mix several signals together, then send 2 channels (left & right) from the mixer into the tascam. You won't be able to change the signals after you record them, but that may not be a problem.
If you want to record tracks and keep them separate, then you'll need a higher track count device. or a PC =)
Apr 12, 2008 04:27 pm Yeah, because what I wanted to do, is be able to have someone playing drums and bass guitar while I play guitar and be able to mix it right into my Tascam.
Is that possible? If so, what's the best way to go about recording a guitar and drums at the same time into a mixer and then into the tascam.
Thanks for the replys
