Back again!
When playing audio files from Cakewalk projects (and other wave files) i hear popping and crackling. I know these sounds weren't in the original recording, they were recorded on a different soundcard and you can see in the audio view in Cakewalk there are no spikes etc that correspond to these sounds.
The soundcard is (I'm embarrassed to tell you lot!) SBLive and my system: Pentium II 350 64MB RAM.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Andrew

Feb 19, 2003 12:41 am Try dropping the level a little bit, you could be experiancing digital clipping.

Feb 19, 2003 12:16 pm If you have a burner, try burning the file to a CD and play it back on a stereo. If the clicking is not present on the CD, then you are suffering from timing problems during playback on your computer. Sometimes CPU, disk speed, etc. overloads can manifest as pops, clicks, etc during playback of a mix, and yet the file itself does not contain the aberations.
My first suspicision would be the sound card. SB sound cards are very high end "consumer" cards. Great for gaming, listening, etc.. There's a big difference between their purpose and the "studio" sound card created for recording and mixing. You may have hit that threshold in your recordings where you need to get into a studio card. That's a good thing! Not for the pocketbook but for your abilities!

Feb 19, 2003 04:43 pm Also, double check your buffer's and latency setting. If the latency is set to low with aSB card, it will cause the digital distortion Loki spoke of. And as Loki just stated, the driver's have a big part in this also. If you have older driver's, this can cause a problem. So my first thing for you to do is go to Creatives support at www.americas.creative.com/support/ and choose your card and download and install the new driver's.

Feb 19, 2003 04:50 pm Yeah, you want to try to be running ASIO drivers if your software and soundcard support them. These have the least latency

Feb 19, 2003 09:16 pm He is running CakeWalk so he will need WDM driver's. But the down load come's with and installs both so it is all good.
