I've used the ASIO drivers that came with the US122 (the old version 122, not the new one).

I think I have buffer at 256, and haven't have any noticeable trouble.

In my software, often the play cursor line isn't exactly where the music is playing. I don't worry about it, and only play against what I hear in headphones, and it's worked quite well.

I've never used asio4all on my lappy-us122. maybe i should give it a whirl, to see how it works.

I think Audition 1.5 has the "automatically correct drift" setting under options on the multitrack tab, something to check at least. PC should definitely be up to the task.

I think the WDM / ASIO / MME issues is just the way the software talks to the hardware, like speaking in french, instead of german.

Sometimes WDM is better, sometimes worse. Sometimes ASIO is better, sometimes worse.

MME is always worse, I think, in regards to latency. That's why WDM was created, to greatly improve the latency, for recording applications.

I have a US-144 and had to play around for a while to get everything the way I wanted it. I ended up with ASIO4ALL working for me, but that was only after downloading the latest drivers and firmware, which helped out greatly.

Like PJ, I don't really know how the drivers technically work, but it seems to me that it kind of depends on the computer- it's almost as though each computer has it's own personality so to speak. If it's working now cassius, then I'd stick by the old adage, "if it aint broke, don't fix it."

Think of it like this- ASIO isn't any higher quality than WDM, it's just a different delivery mechanism.
