I'm chillin in the studio at school and trying to get acquanted with the equipment. I see a Behringer Ultragain Pro-8, a Millennia HV-3D 4 channel preamp, a DBX 760x 2 channel preamp, the huge Control 24, and then an Aphex 204 Aural Enhancer, and two Aphex Expressors.
As far as Mics, we have a Rode large diaphragm, 57/58s, apparantly we used to have 281s but they got stolen
I'm gonna be tying to record acoustic (DMB/Jason Mraz) and hard rock acts (Tool/STP) and I'm trying to get an idea of what to use when the time comes

How many 57/58's do you have?

Use the Rode for the acoustic. As for the rock sessions you will want to close mic the kit with the 57's and then maybe use the Rode about 6 feet right out in front of the kit.

As for pre-amps you may need them all.

Idk how many SM57/58s we have, I'm sure we have enough. I checked out the Rode, it's an NT-1A. Also we have (multiple?) Ramsa S1, and Oktava M012s (at least 3, maybe 6).

I was wondering which pre-amp systems sound the best (or perhaps which pre amps sound the best for which instruments)

Turns out we also have a DBX 286A preamp/compressor/aural enhancer

I'm not even sure what an aural enhancer is, but that's digressing
