toneport ux2 setup, sonar 7 pro

In the past I've used my podxt live to record through acid studio but I just picked up a quality condenser mic for cheap and I've been trying to configure my friend's toneport to record with since it has phantom power built in.

I got the toneport to work properly using the ASIO drivers but I want to be able to monitor AS I record. The analog outs work fine on the toneport for playback but some of the outboard effects i use are really touch sensitive and I want to know if I can somehow monitor with my p.a. while I record and then playback through my pc's soundcard which I have my studio monitors hooked up to. i have tried to use the WMME drivers instead of ASIO and I'm getting crazy playback issues.

thanks in advance,

Griffin

You can't use ASIO on two different sound cards at one time.

WDM would be the next reasonable choice. Often they are just as good, and sometimes better than ASIO.

How will you monitor with a PA when you're recording. Won't the sound get into them microphone? Seems like it would.

To use ASIO, you'll need to hook the monitors or headphones to the toneport output.

If you're using WDM, then you should be able to tell sonar to use TP as input, and Onboard Sound as your output.

I'm not sure how the PA fits in, as you haven't said how it's connected to the system.

Yeah, I second what pj said, we kinda need a little more input as to what your setup is, i.e. how you have the PA hooked up, what your signal paths are like, etc. What kinds of outboard effects are we talking about here?? And how are you applying them in Sonar, through the stock sound card? I'm really confused on this one.

The PA is separate from everything else, I need that to monitor everything I record direct-in (bass, guitar, keyboard) I can just turn it off for when I record vocals. On the podxt I just use it's out to my PA but on the toneport i don't get any sound

Have you tried configuring the ins and outs in Sonar? Go to Options- Audio, click on the drivers tab and make sure you have the output drivers selected, then makes sure on the general tab (I believe) that the UX-2 is both your default in and out. you shouldnt have anything going through your stock soundcard at all in this instance.

Sorry about the confusion and delay, I had all of my ins and outs set up properly but I guess it was a driver issue. I reinstalled all of my line 6 software and the output started working right away; typical windows fun.

I guess I thought I was doing something wrong because Sonar looks so intimidating at first glance after coming from ACID, new GUI's scare me.
