Jan 14, 2008 09:56 pm Yes, a patch bay is a wonderful thing. I use them. And indeed running the cables hidden is great, just don't use cheap stuff as it is a PITA to have to tear out a wall when one goes sour on ya.
But yes, that is common practice to run cables to patch bays for hooking in in other areas.

Jan 15, 2008 10:47 am Hey there Drum, Welcome to HRC.
I've done this in my basement studio. I ran cables through the ceiling, and put 4 position jack plates in my control room, by where the board will be. It's not done yet, but you can see sort of how I've done it in my blog.

The faceplates will be left of the windows in my control room.
I thought I had a picture on here of my control room wall. It has (1) 4pos faceplate up, and the other cables hanging out of the wall. oh well.
