is there any way to monitor the incoming signal immediately after its recorded. i remember in the old days this problem was solved on the analog decks with a third head and the signal was monitored immediately after it went on to tape. sound card is creative sb audigy plat. i have my mixer recording control setting at “analog mix” on this card. other mtr software installed :
n tracks, power tracks, and band in a box.

thanks

My co-writer uses one of those Audigy thingys . His has a breakout box that has separate sends for monitoring real-time, and those go to the amp/monitors . I'm pretty shure there is no foldback to his system, but he does use a 'lil mixer for inputs .

Depending on the software most of the higher end software has the ability to monitor in real time. You will find that it is best to have a very fast system that is capable of a very low latency though. Like less the 8ms. Otherwise the echo will distract you.

What recording software are you running and what is the PC set up like?

recording sw- ihave installed (but have not been using in this project) n tracks, powertracks, and band in a box 2004.
pc: win xp prof, 512 mb ram, amd athlon
xp (2.01 GHz), creative sb audigy
platinum
hookup - going from output of reel to
reel deck > patchbay > soundcard in-
put.
project: record tunes from rxr to hard
disk, run through D A R T to clean
up and remove clicks & pops and
burn to CD

ps thanks for the reply. i posted on
several boards - yours was the only
one i recd.

There should be an option but I'm not certain of were in that software as i don't use it. Anyway the option should be there to allow you to direct the input signal right to the output of the sound card. It may however introduce some latency/delay with the sound card you are using. You might just be best off monitoring direct from the interface.
