Yes, most good tube mics come with a dedicated power supply.

Check this place out. This is a killer mic for the price. www.karmaaudio.com/k58.html

I want one or two of everything on that page. A Ribbon mic would be cool for the collection, I want the 7 pack mini's, would love to try the tube mic and also the other LDC's as OH's.

Good prices, wish someone local had them so I could test one out. I trust the Noise man, but it's tough to buy without playing around first.

CptTripps, if nothing else, pick up the Karma Micro's. They are soooo cheap you can't go wrong. I really like them and I will be purchasing more mics from them in the future. I'm just not sure which ones yet.

Definitely getting the mini's as the price is right, but I would love to compare the tube and non-tube LDC's to my K2 and see if I might like them as OH's.

Dude, you HAVE to use the power supply that comes with the tube mic, not even a question on that. It is only a power supply for the mic and its internal amplifier circuit.

Yes, you can then go into you pre amp, no special pre needed.

And absolutely DO NOT send 48 volt phantom power down the cable to the thing!

Tripps, ya it was tough for me to just plunk down that kind of cash for the Ribbon without hearing it first. But honestly after messing with the K-Micros I knew it would be good.

It is not a mic to be used for real close miccing of anything but vocal's. But it is absolutely killer as a second out mic or slightly off the source. It has s sound unlike anything I have ever used. And honestly I kind of prefer it even if I can't use it directly on a loud source. It just has this spooky sound that can induce goose bumps. It is extremely clear and well rounded. I should have ordered a matched pair but only ordered a single. I will probably pop for a matched pair though come summer time.

Yes, ribbon mics have a shimmering and detailed character that dynamics, condensers or software can't really imitate. If you have some of the high quality LP pressings or well-mastered CDs from, for example, the Capitol recordings of the '50s and '60s from Sinatra and others, you can instantly tell the difference if you're listening. There is no better mic for vocals than a high-quality ribbon.

I can't use one because I'd accidentally drop the damn thing.

And if you dropped the K6 from Karma it would definetly break your toes. The thing is heavy as all get out.
