recording with microkorg to ableton live

Hello to all
i just bought a microkorg today and the midi to usb cables i use ableton live but when i try to play the sounds of the microkorg into the pc and record them it just wont work i mean it does detect them and does send the signal but only that,
i read on previous posts that if u want to play and record the sounds of the microkorg into the pc you had to connect it to the soundcard, this i dont know how i was wondering if any of u guys could help me out in this
what other stuff do i need? how do i do it? and how do i know if my laptop soundcard has the necessary ports or stuff for it to connect to the mk.

Hey, welcome to HRC.

It's pretty simple really. You're laptop should have a line in plug next to the headphone and speaker out plugs. I need to get a cable and adapters that will go from the Micro Korgs 1/4" outputs which will be marked Left and Right. Then the other end of the cable will need to have a stereo mini jack or as it would be called an 1/8' TRS connection. This will go into the lin input of the laptop and you will then be able to record the sounds that the Micro produces. The USB cable is simply for sending and recieving midi to and from the Micro Korg.

Um, ya they might. Otherwise most music stores will have them from Hosa or other cable makers.

If you have to do the Radio Shack thing then it will probably end up with you buying the 1/4" cables and then an adapter cable which will get you to the 1/8" mini jack.
