Dec 27, 2007 02:55 am No, you're not doing anything wrong. When mixers are labled any given number of channels, there is never (in my experience) the same amount of XLR inputs. It's very deceptive if you ask me.
About the cables, yes you'll need seven.
Are there any 1/4" inputs besides the mic inputs? If there are, you could try getting adapters to plug the toms into the 1/4" jacks, and use the 4 mic inputs for the snare, kick, and 2 overheads.
You need to check and see how many channels it can record at once. (I assume 12?)
If all else fails, consider just miking 4 mics. Snare, kick, 2 overheads (it won't sound bad at all once you get the hang of it.)
