So i bit my lip and got the mesa/boogie caliber 50 from the thrift shop i found at a very nice price. Problem is now i need a cab, the guy who sold it to me said it wont do much good driving a 4x12 and i should stick with a 2x12 or 2x10. It has a 8 ohm out and two seperate 4 ohms, any suggestions?

Also it doesnt have a footswitch and i cant seem to find someone who is just selling the foot switch, is there any alternative i could do? i have some fender footswitches, r these things brand specific?

I don't know why it wouldn't drive a 4x12. Nothing says 'movin air' like a 4x12. But if you're not playing live on a outdoor stage, then it may not be what you want.

For pretty low price (in US) there's Dave at Avatar:

I'm not sure where you point for non-US though.

I believe fender footswitches are just that, a switch. But in the 50cal PDF it says there's a LED on the footswitch, so I'd be leery of putting a different kind on there, in case the LED voltage goes somewhere it's not supposed to go.

Nope the LED voltage is driven by standard foot switch current which is minimal and won't make any difference at all. As long as the fender switch is the simple push to open push to close type you will be alright.

And I agree completely on the 4 x 12 cabinet as well. There should be no reason you cant use that with the Cal 50.

Thanx for the advice guys
The guy who sold me the head said he can build me a cab for cheap by stripping a Behringer cab and putting in higher quality speakers... its kind of a shot in the dark i guess but its in my budget.

Those avatars look great btw, and their totally in my price range.. ill have to email them though i doubt theyll ship to me, not cheap anyway. Sux living out in the middle of nowhere

I thought about a home-built, I've seen quite a few of those, and if you're not against having a slightly non-perfect-looking cab, then heck yeah.

Course, if it's coming from an already made cab, then all the better.

Putting in good speaks is the majority of your tone anyway, so why not.
