Static Fuzz noise from Presonus firebox

I'm getting a static sounding noise from my presonus firebox. It's not my mic cables, i've replaced them, and I've also replaced my firewire cable. The noise is very low coming through my headphones during recording, but during playback it's very audible. It's not "crackling and popping" like presonus describes as a result of latency, it's simply a loud "fuzz". Any suggestions? I know this is a semi-common problem for firebox owners

Not knowing the piece of gear, this may not be the best advice... but if it has an AC cable, are you sure it's grounded?

It has an AC cable, but it's 2 prong at the end, not 3, so i guess it's not grounded. I wouldn't know how to go about grounding the device, just sit it on top of a piece of metal or something? I've heard some devices have a ground screw hole or something, but this doesn't have it. I'm thinking that it may need to be grounded, anyone know how I could do it?

this is the device- www.presonus.com/firebox.html

OK after a few hours I've discovered this:

When I record something through the firebox into cubase, there is a static heard during recording and much louder during playback. But, when I unplug my firebox and listen to the recording through just my computer headphone jack, there is no static, so i guess this means that my firebox is causing static, but not recording the static?

If this is the case (pretty sure it is), I need to mix through speakers, without using the firebox to avoid static, how can i do this? Should a buy a whole new , inexpensive sound card that just has main outputs for monitors?

You can do that or try and get a hold of Presonus tech support and find out if the unit may be defective, (which it sounds like it might be) and ask them if there is a solution. It may be something internal in the Firebox itself.
