Routing: click track, ambient mic, keyboards, earphones...

Hi. I'm a keyboard player, I just bought a pair of SCL02 because I'm tired of destroying my ears when I go live. But that arises a few monitoring problems...Let me explain. My setup for live is:

-2 keyboards
-laptop
-voice mic
-click track
-ambient mic

I need a main mix going to the P.A. with the following:

-keyboards
-laptop
-voice mic

and a monitor mix going to my headphones with:

-keyboards
-laptop
-mic
-click track
-ambient mic

Plus, I need to route che click track to a PowerPlay for the rest of the band, but NOT to the P.A..

What mixer do I need to do that? My Behringer UB802 is not enough... Maybe an MX1204?

Seems like a mixer with a sub-group will do the trick.

Just plug all your inputs to separate tracks, then push the button for each track to go to which group (mains or sub or both)

Then connect your PA out from the mains, and plug your monitor mix into the sub group.

The click track you could tap into an insert jack, up to the first click, and tap signal out from there, to go to the powerplay. So you'd need a mixer with sub group, and channel inserts.

This would do the trick:

you'll want at least 2 stereo inputs (2 each) so you can have stereo from the keyboards, i would think. Maybe not, but usually I've seen keyboard output stereo.

Ok thanks a lot! :)

One more thing: using the insert for the click track, will the click track still be heard on the headphone mix? Or do I need other gear (splitters, headphone amps...) Sorry but I've been scratching my head for days I can't come up with a solution :) Anyway, i'll try with the mg12/4, I have one at home that I use for recording...

the way I'm seeing it . . .

click signal gets fed into some channel, say 5. Plug the click signal into the line input for that channel. I assume it's coming from an external device. If it's coming from your laptop, then this may be more difficult.

on the mixer, set the ch5 signal to go to sub group, but not mains. this should send click to the headphone mix, but not the PA.

Now, insert 1/4" mono cable (guitar cable will work) into insert jack, but only till it finds first 'click' spot. This will let signal out from the insert jack, but won't disrupt the signal flow to the rest of the mixer. If you push the 1/4" plug all the way into the insert jack, then signal will get stopped at the insert point. Not what you want. Plug the other end of the cable into your powerplay. Now the powerplay will have click signal, but nothing else.

In my mind it works ! =)

Now, you didn't specify where the click track is coming from, nor what type of headphone setup your using. Are you connecting your headphones to the mixer? If you are, then you should still be OK, as all the signal should go to the HP mix, just some won't go to the mains.

I'm assuming the headphone jack on the mixer.

Seems to be OK.

Yes, it works in my mind too... I'll try it in the weekend and I'll let you know! Anyway, I am using the headphones jack on the mixer, and the click track comes from the laptop but on a separate channel from the audiocard. So it works in mono, but most of the time people in the audience are too drunk to notice :)
