I've been playing around for a couple of years on the sideline with my home studio. I feel it's time to take it to the next level and enroled in the AIA course www.audioinstitute.com I'm 38 and in South Africa - audio training is quite expensive here so distand learning seems like the best option. I hope I'm doing the right thing as I don't want to waste time and money.
Cheers!

Well I can't say that I have heard of them at all. Maybe in passing somewhere. But the founder does appear to have good credentials and a long standing in the industry. That doesn't mean that the school actually even has him around anymore, but you get the point. I don't see any names in there I really know that are famous other then those mentioned in the founders description. They state they have been around for 20 years which is good if it is true.

The one thing that bothered me was the fact they own a website and domain, but use an earthlink.net email address. I just find that kind of strange for a school as huge as they claim to be.

Did you look into any other online course's at all?

Yes I looked at some others, i.e.Masterclass level 4 sound engineer. They give you the 1st couple of lessons for free. AIA sent me some brosures from America all te way to South Africa, so that was quite nice. I chose the multipart option which costs more but payments are in chunks so I can pull out if I want. You only get the lessons you pay for.
Thanks for your reply.
Cheers!

I am guessing it should be a competent course then if they allow sectional study like that. I am sure it will work out fine for you.

A close friend went thru it 3 years ago and it improved his recordings a lot. I got to look thru the entire course (he paid in full, and no I did NOT study it!) and it is laid out very logically, and has a ton of helps. I think it is well worth the cost, and I have been saving up for it for a few months myself (if you pay in full they knock $100 off)

Good Luck with it, I think that you will enjoy it!
