Need some help with the xenyx 1222 +uca200

Hey, I recently bought some new stuff and among them was the Xenyx 1222 mixer.

I've connected it to my laptop through the U-control UCA200 which let's me plug it into my laptop through a USB port..

Anyways, I disabled my onboard soundcard and been trying to get this mixer to work. I know that sound from my laptop is sent to the mixer, but I am not getting anything sent back to my laptop..

Sidequestion; does anyone know if you can't use PC speakers with this unit?
I am using a dell XPS atm and the speakers aren't all that, but they aren't bad - I will get proper monitors soon, but right now there is no point for me to get them so I need to use the PC speakers.

Anyways any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Chiaki

Nope, you're onboard speakers are only tied into your onboard soundcard, which you'll want to avoid.

You'll have to get something that will plug into the main outs of the 1222, or the control room, tape outs, etc.

The speakers will need some sort of amplifier to power those, as the output from the mixer will be line level, not enough to power speakers with.

If you meant external speakers, then yes, you can use those. You'll need an adapter to convert the (2) 1/4" cables (left & right) down to a female 1/8" stereo jack.

I guess you could plug a monitoring solution directly into the uca200, instead of going through the mixer again. Either way should work.

OK, thinking about it again, you could have the mixer / uca200 as the input in windows, and the onboard soundcard as the playback. That should work.

Go into the windows sound applet, and tell windows which to use for in and out.

On my dell, I left the onboard sound active. when I use my US122 plugged in, my software sends signal to the 122. When i don't have it plugged in, the sound goes through my onboard sound. Maybe yours would work similarly.

Hey thanks for the replies - I did mean my onboard speakers - I am using the Dell XPS laptop atm and it has well enough sounding speakers for what I am working on now. It doesn't sound as crappy as most laptop speakers anyways!

I do actually have the onboard soundcard active as playback, and the xenyx mixer or "USB audio codec" as windows wants to call it, as the record.

I just did some recording with my guitar through the xenyx mixer - and it did record in Cubase etc, I can see the waves and I saw the input meters move when I played. But nothing is playing back now when I hit play.. and it was a reasonable volume aswell.. I am confused now what to do!

You may have to tell cubase what to use as output. I'm gonna guess there's a options page, where you can tell it to use the onboard.

Hopefully, it does, anyway.

I'd have to see if I can split the ins and outs with my laptop and us122. Interesting experiment.

Just to test, you could see if windows plays out the laptop speakers from WMP or something similar. That would let you know that windows is at least happy with the selections.

Ah yeah of course - I kind of overlooked that part.
But yeah I went into Cubase' VST connections now and checked out the outputs. They were set as "not connected". When I went to change it however i found that there are no options to change it..

Any ideas? When I play music with media player it plays just fine.

yeah, it plays with the laptop speakers just fine when I use WMP. I just cannot set anything as output in Cubase.. kind of strange

ugh, i know nothing about cubase. there's a few here that use it.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with some help, as I'm out =/.

Reaper is a possible alternative, you can download at reaper.fm

it's shareware, but fully working uncrippled. It's got a lot more going for it than cubase VST.

I remember looking at that when I got my 1010lt years ago. ugh, it got removed quickly =).

Nah I like Steinbergs stuff! :P I like how cubase looks and works etc, and I don't feel like using something new right now..
I will bookmark the site and have a look later however!

Anyways, I don't see why I can't select the onboard sound card as output in the program :/

You need to go into the audio options or preferences section and select the driver you wish to use as your input driver. Which will be the AC97 probably. I don't however recommend that as the UCA 200 and the onboard sound card have entirely different clocks and you may get garbled or warped sounding playback. Can't say for sure but odds are good if it does happen that is why.
