Newb needs advice for Recording/Sampling SW

Hi Folks,

I just purchased a Delta1010LT card for my PC and its up and working (P4,3Ghz,1G ram). Primary purpose is to start recording our new band, so need at least 3 chans recording at once. The provided Live4 (w/free upgrade to Ableton Live 6 version) only does 2 CH and seems overly complex for starters, Krystal hangs frequently, and Pro Tools Demo works fine but can't save & expensive.
Second need is to add extra "hands" and Instruments to our live music. Assume this would have to be done via Midi but not sure if I should find DAW sw that also supports sequencing(?) or go with a separate stand alone (like Teratec Axon 100)? Assume the SW or External device has some way to trigger "when to play" and when to stop and some ability to quantize. I looked at Guitar Tracks Pro, and it might work. But some confusion on what product does this and that. I'm finding most DAW companies do a poor job (IMO) of distinguishing their products (i.e. what it does, what it doesn't do)at least to the novice. I probably have $200 or so to play with.. Thanks in advance for your help... Kord

You need to pay a visit to www.cakewalk.com as they are leading the way in those type products for the very beginner to the seasoned veteran. I use several of their software and have since their very first program. On the multitrack audio with midi sequancing you can look into something in the home studio line or in the Sonar line. Sonar 6 come with some pretty heavy duty goodies even in the standard version. I use the Producer version and it comes with a pretty heavy load of software synths drum programs and a lighter sampler. If your looking to get into something that works in a live situation, which Sonar definetly does as well its just not set up to trigger with as many options as Project 5 is. Project 5 also comes with a larger load of software synths and a killer sampler/synth in Dimmension as well as some absolutely killer analog modeling synths. IF you have any questions on either product or the entry level Cakewalk stuff just ask. There are a good deal of us here using it.
