Has anyone ever custom built a guitar through the Warmoth website. I am looking to build a guitar which is probably going to run me around 1500. Just want to know how the quality is and if it will be worth the money. Or should I just buy an original.

Feb 28, 2007 12:44 pm I have a local buddy who swears up and down that warmoth guitars are works of art. They indeed they look that way but I have never owned one.

Feb 28, 2007 01:16 pm Hey amcolan,
I've never built a guitar with Warmoth parts but I have built a Samba (Grizzly) kit and refinished a couple of others. While I was researching this kit I came across a lot of happy Warmoth customers. My understanding is that they use nothing but the best parts. However, $1500 is a lot of cash for a build yourself project. There are other options out there worth investigating before you take the Warmoth plunge. Carvin has a bolt and bolt plus kit. As I mentioned, Grizzly has a few kits as well. If this is your first build, you may want to start off on one of these kits.
Regardless, building your own guitar is a very satisfying experience that you can't get by buying a factory built guitar.

Feb 28, 2007 02:36 pm I have a custom bass with Warmoth neck, and body. I did the finishing on the body myself (hand rubbed gun-stock oil over walnut), and had a local craftsman spray the neck (birds eye maple with vintage shellac finish). I know they pre-finish stuff these days (not an option when I made my bass).
Their quality is absolutely lovely. Their necks are strengthened, and I've never had to even slightly adjust mine since the initial set up - twelve plus years ago.
I'm thinking of doing a guitar with their parts too...
Feb 28, 2007 04:43 pm About five years ago i saw an all blonde from top to bottom telecaster and till this have not seen one since. That is what I want to build. White body, neck, fretboard, head, everything except the hardware. Its gonna look badass. I check to see how much fenders custom shop would cost and it ran over 3000 dollars after everything....thats nuts. now 1500 seems like a bargain.
Thanks for the advice...i'll check out some of the other companies. Ive checked Carvin before and that was fairly expensive after everything.

Feb 28, 2007 05:06 pm Maybe have a look around G&L Guitars website. www.glguitars.com
Kinda strange but if you want a real Fender you should get it from G&L. The ASAT is a great guitar and a great price. I'm pretty sure that their custom shop would build it exactly the way you want.

Feb 28, 2007 10:05 pm I have never built from Warmoth but I'm getting ready to build a guitar from scratch. I bought a template set from www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com/ and he has a nice product. I'm building something based on the Ibanez Jem and covering the front with a piece of carbon fiber.
Mar 01, 2007 11:35 am I actually have a G&L Legacy Special...it was my first guitar and is still my favorite. didn't know that they do customs though....thanks..I'll check it out.
