I bought a E-MU 0404 sound card and I own a Alesis QS8.2 keyboard. I have connected them through the MIDI i/o in the keyboard to the port on the sound card but I am getting no signal. I also connected a Beringher 2 channel mixing board through and tried to get a mic to work, with phantom power, no signal. Then I plugged a non condenser mic into the sound card audio input and still did not get a signal. I am a big time novice and this is not a good start to my computer based recording. Please help me! thanks

Nov 07, 2006 05:10 pm OK, first off lets start from scartch. I'll run down a list of things that could be happening.
Are the drivers properly installed for the sound card? And is it selected as the main input and output in your recording software?
What recording software are you using?
Connecting the QS8 via midi will only let it send and recieve midi data. Which is not audio data, only the data to tell a synth such as the QS8 what note and the velocity to play it at.
Do you have the QS8's line outputs connected to the mixer, and is the mixer connected to a monitering set up or through headphones?
We'll start with that and go from there.
