Help Multi-tracking with Acid Pro 6 (Newbie)

Hi all

I'm new to these forums, I like what I see very much.

I'd like to start simultaneous multi-track recording in Acid Pro 6. Currently, the only way I can do this is to record on to my Roland VS-840 (limited to only 4 tracks at once), and then to record each track individually on to Acid.

I want to start recording bands, so ideally want to be able to record 16 or more tracks simultaneously on to Acid, and I'm looking for recommendations for equipment. I don't have much money to spend and have been looking at the Phonic 24 fw mixing desk but don't know how good/bad it is (can't find any reviews). Are there any other products available to me that might cut the mustard? Ideally I want something with USB or Firewire connectivity.

I've also been looking at the Korg D3200 but it's a bit out of my price range.

Many thanks in anticipation

Keith

Welcome to HRC.

Well first off, I would honestly double check to see if Acid is even capable of accepting 16 channels at once. I am not certain but I think you are limited to 2 inputs at once in Acid. Dont quote me on that though.

Second, Phonics has gottena bad rap as they are built on the cheap. But there are one or two peep's here who have been using them with some luck. I have however read several bit in forums and such that stated clearly that the Cubase le software that comes with it is finicky at the least if it works at all on most systems. Sonar was being recomended to replace it and seemed to work well on most systems.

I will state here that firewire is still a pretty new technology for audio interfaces. And honestly has not gotten the best reviews as of yet. Mackie right now seems to be the most stable of the firewire mixers of that nature.

But there have been several other users of the phonics boards that seemed to be pretty happy with them. Although they did make the statement that they do not look well built and would not recomend taking them on the road.

AS for USB right now it is limited to 2 simultaineous inputs I believe.
