Recording Midi + Vocals + Guitar

Hello,

I am a singer songwriter and I would like to record and edit my songs on the computer.

The things I want to record are:

(1) Digital piano (midi)
(2) Vocals/Microphone (with preamps?..)
(3) Semi Accoustical Guitar

My singing teacher has recommended the following to me:
www.m-audio.com/products/...eSolo-main.html
www.m-audio.com/products/...ckPro-main.html
www.musik-produktiv.de/sh...5/quelle/listen

These are also mobile and can be used to record live on stage I’ve understood?..

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions or properties I should look at specifically?

Thank you very much.

Well for what you need those devices all would work fine. I would honestly stay away from the firewire at the moment as that type of interface is prone to some problems as of yet with all the software changes going on. USB on the other hand is running pretty stable right now and seems to be a bit more reliable for most users.

M-Audio gear is pretty reliable as well, drivers are kept fairly current so that is not a huge issue. Although M-Audio has been laging behind in driver updates the last year or so. That is one reason I have switched my main interfaces to ESI products. But those are PCI card interfaces for desktop machines and I assume you are wanting something to use on a laptop as well as desktop?

You might want to have a look at the Line 6 UX-2 as well, although it does lack the midi i/o you require. But a dedicated 1 in and out USB midi interface can be had for under $30.00 US. The UX-2 offers some excellant microphone pre amp models which I use frequantly on mine. As well there are some great set ups with the acoustic guitar in mind if you are using and electro-acoustic they work splendidly.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes I would like an external device :)

I have to say recording the guitar would come last on the list, I am much more skilled with the piano. But it is an option I would like to have.

I'm guessing a midi input is a midi input though and that there won't be a lot of difference between them?

Here is the review dB and I did on both models of the Line 6 Toneport's. www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=727

Have a look into that as it might be just what your looking for.

I had been very reluctant to try any of the firewire and USB interface devices other then using a USB multi port midi interface from M-Audio for years.

So I thought would give it a shot with the US-2. I have to say I was rather pleased with the results. And honestly I have been finding myself using it more then my fully loaded PODxt for electric guitar stuff. And as well bypassing my mixing desk and going right into the UX-2 for some vocal stuff.

And indeed, I must agree that even the very low dollar USB midi interfaces will work just fine.
