Ok, i'll try to keep this simple..We've got a yamaha electric kit that we plan to use to record drums, but we need something for recording guitar, bass and vocals. Can someone tell me what the hell is the difference between these devices? They all see to have 2 inputs at once. Is one better than the other? I seem to lean towards the Firebox/Inspire. Is there any difference between them? Any input would help us a lot, thanks :D

No there not realy Better then the other,MBox is Protools, and FireBox Is a PreSonus hardware with I belive Cubase as the Software, both are good Programs.

But it's about what you are comfortable with.
Not whos the Best.what realy matters is the Music.

Good luck,I hope this helps you out.

You can use any software with those itnerfaces. You dont have to use the lite applications that come with them.

Do you need more then 2 inputs at once? Do you want an audio interface you can grow with? Does your computer have Firewire interface, and have you checked to see if it is comaptable with the Inspire or Firebox?

I personally prefer a PCI card based interface, they are rock solid and perfrom flawlessly these days. The Firewire stuff is still in its beggining stages and has some issues to get over before I will recomend them with good faith. USB itnerfaces have gotten better but there are still imitations with them as well.

Answer a couple of the questions above and we will try and get you pointed in the right direction.

Hey guys. Well, right now my drummer is using an Electric kit, so i think for now 2 inputs should be good, but I would like something that I can grow with in the future, such as recording a full drum kit. I dont have a firewire card at the moment, but they're relatively cheap, so that's no problem to obtain. I also like the portability of the firewire devices. Would anyone suggest one over the other (mbox, vs. presonus) Im also looking for one that I can use with software that isnt overly complicated, as we're recording mainly a garage rock style rock band. Thanks for your help :D

Well, I will tell you up front. If your going to use a firewire card, it is only going to be as fast as the PCI buss on your PC. So that is almost a waste of money there.

But as you stated protability is something that might make it worth it for you. So I suggest checking the compatability issues with the PC you currently have. That includes the CPU, chipset and any other pertanant hardware such as the firewire card.

I can't spell.

Well I know my example is kind of different since I had a really nice lap top sold to me dirt cheap in the beginning, but I started with a Firepod rather then a Firebox, it has way more inputs, so down the road when you want to record acoustic drums you'd be able to no problem, and isn't all that much more expensive than the Firebox for some reason even though there is such a difference. The only problem Firewire wise I had with my Firepod was that the Card I bought to connect the pod to my computer used a different chip set than the Firepod was programmed to use. I had skipped over that part in the instructions before buying it. The compatible ones are easy to find however, you just have to match it with any card compatible with Texas Instruments. In the end however I called them up and asked if I could run from the six pin output on the Firepod to my four pin input, they said yes, and I haven't had a single problem since.
