Comp freezing up

If I try to run more than 1 vsti synth at a time my computer gets overtaxed. Now I know thismachine wsn't built for audio, since it was built for scraps, but is there anyway (without new hardware) to give it a boost? I need to use several synths simultaniously. it's not just playing them at the same time that's a problem, it's anything involving more than one synth.

Does your recording app allow you to freeze the synth track? Or you can turn it into an audio only track.

In the old days before Sonar had the freeze function I would just turn the track into an audio track and eliminate the VSTi. It saved a lot on the CPU usage.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean just exporting the midi tracks as audio and then putting them back in?

And yeah I can freeze, although I don't know what that means.

When you freeze the track it essentially becomes and audio track behind the scenes and shuts down the VSTi so you save on CPU usage. I use it on really heavy synth stuff when I'm using the big CPU hog type synths like Tassman and Psyn II and the like. The analog emulating synths are very power hungry as are most sampler type synths.

So, indeed if you have that option then use it to freeze a couple or all of the synth tracks and that should free up some CPU cycles for ya.

yep that little button worked wonders. Now I have to figure out a way to get my two sets of speakers to work how I think they should and I'll be good (in the process of redo-ing entire setup for spring cleaning).
So far it's like this

Main outs of Mixer, in 1 and 2 of delta 44
In 3 and 4 of delta insert points on mixer acting like direct outs
Out 1 and 2 of delta to M-Audio DX4 monitors
Outs 3 and 4 of delta to AUX return on mixer
2t Tape rec outs to tape ins on stereo reciever, outs of the reciever to stereo speakers.

This works for now because I just want to be able to listen to music through both speaker sets to mix, but I noticed I can get a lot louder on the 10 inch stereo speakers so I want to use those for tracking, which means I want to hear the playback of the instruments and track being record through them. Right now thats not really working since they are on the aux loop and so they keep getting recorded when tracking... I think I figured out a way to do this though, but I will have to buy some 1/4" to RCA cables... *rambling*
