Hey guys. Just wondering if any of you would like to check out a new instrumental my band and I recently made. If you could comment on the mix and the song on general that would be great. Is this song alright without lyrics? or is it too repeditive?

Thanks,

Feb 22, 2006 10:30 pm The song has alot of energy, and I like the lead guitar. Opening is interesting and draws me in... I feel like it doesn't go anywhere though... no real development, no melodic line that takes me away... Where are we going? I enjoyed it but felt it left me hanging.... does that make any sense?

Feb 22, 2006 10:35 pm Thanks for the listen. I tried to vary it up a little bit on the second verse by doubling and panning the snare part, however it wasnt enough. I think we may have to tear apart the song, re-think it and actual try to tell a story without any words. Thanks again.

Feb 23, 2006 03:17 am I enjoyed it a lot josh. nice drum sound, what snare did you use? What ride did you use for that lovely 'ping' The kick lacked a little bit for me tho.

Feb 23, 2006 02:54 pm Thanks kaos. the snare was a 14x4 bison custom snare drum. It looks something like this www.bisondrums.com/rock_snares.htm (The one that the Modern Drummer article is on). Its absolutely amazing. My uncle from whom I bought this kit from used to be in a ska ish type band and it sounded perfect for them too. The rim clicks sound even better (if you read the article it explains it a little bit).
The ride is a 22" aged HH ride from sabian. Im not sure if they still make the 22" but it looks and sounds kinda like the 21" raw dry ride. I have to work on the bass guitar/kick drum seperation.

Feb 23, 2006 07:46 pm Could be a theme for a TV show. Then it wouldnt need to move around to much.
I do agree with DungBeatle that it would be nice to hear it get a little change of pace as it moves on. Granted it is less then 3 minutes so it isnt a major deal. But you could delfinately put in a bridge to a key change or maybe a quick bit of something faster, or slower even.
I do like the feel at the tempo you are at though, very happy feeling song for sure.
The mix sounds good as well, everything seems to fit well together.

Feb 23, 2006 07:57 pm I guess it could go without lyrics if you added some interest guitar or synth lines to it. A counter melody perhaps to the main guitar riff. It definately needs something added to excite it a bit though.

Feb 24, 2006 05:51 pm Thanks noize. Good suggestion about the tempo change...I never really considered that. The band wants to start fooling around with synths so we might give a synth part a try.
